Children's Book Research

“Elephant Joe is a Knight” by David Wojtowycz

·      This book is apart of the “Elephant Joe” series, following the titular character Elephant Joe in a series of adventures. Others include ‘Elephant Joe is a Spaceman” and “Elephant Joe is a Pirate”
·      The book has a unique style that has been created by blending in the cartoonish and illustrated style with the book with photographs of things, such as the lollipops for the trees in the enchanted forest. This allows the book to create textures, such as for the armour of the characters and the fire that the dragon breathes. This is a very simple, but effective style that can be easily emulated into my own project and achieved on Photoshop.
·      It is a picture book, and has vibrant and colourful images throughout the whole book, as well as text. However, this means that the book can be entertaining and aesthetically pleasing even for children too young to read, although parents can also read to them. This means the age range for the book is quite versatile, and can appeal to very young toddlers, possibly even infants, as well as older children around the age of 6 or 7.
·      The book is 20 pages long, with many large pages that take up a two-page spread. The book is long enough to have an interesting and fun story for children but not too long that they lose interest or become bored.
·      There is not too much text on the pages, but there is enough to further the story along. The text in the book is often presented in an interesting and creative fashion, by things such as its positioning, angle and size. A lot of the text is also in speech bubbles.
·      The pages of the book are 21.8 cm by 27 cm.
·      David Wojtowycz is the author and illustrator of the book.
·      It was published by Alison Green Books.
“Annie Angel” by Susie Jenkin-Pearce

·      The images in the book have been made in a style of illustrating and painting that achieves a pleasant aesthetic that is pleasing to the eye, with a lot of colour and paint texture.
·      There is not much text on each page; often only one sentence at the bottom of whatever image has been used on the page.
·      The book is 22 pages long, with only a small few pages that filled an entire double spread of a page.
·      The text is very basic and clear, which makes it very simple to read. This is especially good for young children learning to read, as it makes it less difficult for them.
·      The book appears to be aimed at toddlers and young children, around the age of 3 and older.
·      The pages of the book are 8.6 by 8.7 inches large.
·      The book was both written and illustrated by Susie Jenkin-Pearce.
·      Frances Lincoln is the publisher of this book.

“A Squash and a Squeeze “ by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler

·      This children’s book was authored by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.
·      This book appears to have been illustrated, and possibly may have been coloured using coloured pencils.
·      The font that is used for the book is quite normal and easy to read, but appears to have been slightly altered to give it a less sharp and rigid appearance.
·      There is more variation from page to page as to how much text there is. Some pages may only have one line, while others have much longer paragraphs. The majority of the pages have about two lines of text.
·      The book is 24 pages long.
·      The pages of the book are also 21.6cm by 27cm in size.

·      This book was published by Macmillan Children’s Books
